Installation

Not all installations are equal. Having a new service installed shouldn’t mean you have to figure out how to wire everything on your own – and it shouldn’t leave your home torn apart. Mstar’s hassle-free installation includes hooking up your Internet connection, phones and all your TVs so once your installation is complete, your industry-leading services are ready to use.

We use CAT5e wiring in your home to ensure the fiber-optic signal stays crystal clear all the way to your TVs or computer, instead of degrading the way a signal will over cable. CAT5e ensures your new connection is future proof – it can transfer services up to a gigabit per second. That means you’ll be able to integrate the hot new technologies of tomorrow. We also make sure any new wiring is completed with wall plates and jacks mounted neatly, so you won’t have open holes in your wall – just really great service that works!

What to expect

Because Mstar provides fiber-optic service all the way into your home, crews will need to bury the fiber-optic cable between the curb and your house. Full installation involves three phases:

PHASE I—Blue Stakes (Underground Installations Only)
  • Blue Stakes will mark the locations of existing buried utilities on your property (water lines, gas lines, etc.) in preparation for the conduit install.
  • You do not need to be present.
PHASE II—Conduit Install (Underground Installations Only)
  • A conduit will be installed from the street to the side of your house
  • You do not need to be present.
PHASE III—Service Install (Underground and Aerial Installations)
  • Someone 18 or older must be present during the install—no exceptions.
  • The install should take two to four hours to complete. You will be asked to set aside a four-hour window for the installation.
  • A $99 charge will be assessed for missed appointments.
  • The fiber will be spliced from the street and, for underground installations, will be pulled through the previously installed conduit to the inside of your home.
  • Two devices, a battery backup and an Access Portal, will be installed.
  • Where? — Usually placed in a utility room or garage
  • How? — Mounted on a wall
  • Size? — About 2 sq ft total wall space
The access portal which will be installed inside your home or garage is where the fiber-optic signal is delivered. Once there’s light at the access portal, Mstar technicians will install your Internet connection and TVs with CAT5e wiring. Each of your TVs will be hooked to a set-top box. We use your existing phone lines and hardware to convert your phones to an IP signal - no new phone equipment is required. When the installation is complete, your service will be ready to use and your Mstar technician will show you how.

The installer will test the connection on the computer to ensure it is functioning properly but will not leave it connected if a router/firewall is not present.

Your router/firewall should include basic setup and configuration.

Additional devices may be connected for a fee.

The installer will NOT :
  • Install/configure hardware devices not purchased from or provided by Mstar
  • Install/configure software
  • Setup e-mail
