Faster Speeds

You might cruise the Internet a little faster when your computer is directly connected to your Ethernet cable instead of through a wireless router.

Many residential-grade wireless routers aren’t fast enough to keep up with our 15Mbps connection. If you’re using a wireless router to connect to the Internet, the speeds you experience may be limited by your router’s capability.

To find out, try plugging the data cable going into your wireless router directly into the Ethernet port on your computer. If your speeds are faster with a direct connection, you might want to consider upgrading your router or using the direct connection. If you have a firewall on your router, make sure you also have one on your PC before bypassing the router. A new router or a direct connection just might give you more bang for your Megabit!
